The Two Temples at Abu Simbel
Information about the two massive rock temples
in Nubia, Southern Egypt, on the west bank of
Lake Nasser. The temples are located about 230
kilometers southwest of Aswan and they are part
of the Nubian Monuments UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The two temples of Pharaoh Ramesses II at Abu Simbel were carved out of a mountainside during the Pharoah's reign in the 13th century BC as a monument to himself and his queen Nefertari. The temples are no longer in their original location. In the 1960's they were moved to prevent them from being flooded when the Aswan Dam was built. T Two artificial hills were built and today carvings are set in those hills. WikiTravel Abu Simbel Travel Guide Pharaoh Ramesses II Temple at Abu Simbel Queen Nefertari Temple at Abu Simbel
